7005 and 2024 t3 aluminum coil rolls are two representative of the hardest aluminium products. Their differences lie in chemical composition, mechanical properties and application.
Chemical Composition
7005: Si:≤0.35 Fe:≤0.40 Cu:≤0.10 Mn:0.20~0.7 Mg:1.0~1.8 Cr:0.06~0.20 Zn:4.0~5.0 Zr:0.08~0.20 Ti:0.01~0.06 Al: rest
2024: Si: 0.5% Fe: 0.5% Copper: 3.8-4.9 Mn: 0.3-0.9 Mg: 1.2-1.8 Cr: 0.10 Zn: 0.25 Ti: 0.15 Other: 0.15 Al: rest
Mechanical Properties
7005: 7005 aluminum coil is a deformed aluminium alloy. The strength of 7005 is higher than that of alloy 7003. It has good welding performance and can be strengthened by heat treatment. 7005 is a lightweight aluminum material. The strength of 7005 aluminum is stronger than that of 6061. It is much lighter and the price is higher.
2024: The characteristic of the 2024 aluminum coil is its high hardness. In 2024 the content of copper is the highest, about 3-5%. Bot 2024 and 7005 aluminum alloys are relatively hard materials in aluminum products, and 2024 is the harder one of the two.
Application
7005: 7005 aluminum coil is often used to manufacture welded structures that require both high strength and high fracture toughness, such as truss, rods, and containers for transportation vehicles.
2024: Because of its high strength and good fatigue strength, t3 2024 aluminum coil is widely used in aircraft structures (skins, skeletons, ribs, bulkheads, etc.), rivets, missile structures, propeller elements and various other structures.
