Can 5082 be made into pebbled aluminum sheet

A pebbled aluminum sheet is made by rolling the surface of a mill finish aluminium sheet with pebble patterns. It can be applied in packaging, wall cladding, tread panels etc. Ordinary alloys for pebbled aluminium sheets include 1100, 1060, 3003, 5052, 5754, 6061, 6063 and 6082, which exclude 5082.

5082 aluminum plate, just like 5052 and 5754, is an anti-corrosion Al-Mg alloy close to 5083 aluminum alloy in strength and featured by good forming properties. As a result, 5082 has similar properties and application scopes with 5083. Both are stronger than 5052 in strength, but not so strong as 6xxx series. However, 5082 is not a frequently applied alloy in the aluminium industry, therefore, 5082 aluminum sheet price is higher than other grades of 5xxx series.

Can 5082 aluminium plate be made into pebbled sheet, then? The answer is positive. Theoretically aluminium plates of all alloys can be embossed with pebble patterns, just like showed above. But in practical purchasing and production procedures, purchasers and manufacturers need to take material and process costs into account. Since 5082 has similar properties with 5083, people prefer to replacing it with 5083 as usual as possible, for the latter boasts maturer production process and larger stocks. As a matter of fact, in most cases even 5xxx and 6xxx alu embossed sheets are not chosen, since 1xxx and 3xxx sheets are able to meet needs in most application conditions.
